AbstractIn this research the sea surface wave regime incident offshore the northeast Brazilian littoral imposed by the surface generated by the wave model WAVEWATCH for the priod from February 1997 to January 2004 were employed in the study. The reults revealed that during July, August, and September the surface winds are stronger along the belt defined by the latitudes 5 N and 20 N were the easterley African disturbances developed. Events with wind speed above 18 m/s and significant wave height greater than 4 m along the belt were selected. The swell incident into the Northeast Brazilian littoral from these selected events are smaller in comparasion with the significant wave heights produced by the dominant trade winds and do not in its local wave regimes.
